Inspiration for your bathroom

Of all the places tiles are used, bathroom walls are among the most logical and effective. Tiles provide a hygienic, easy to clean and durable surface and a range of colours, finishes and patterns mean they can suit any space. Bathroom walls are the perfect blank canvas for adding character and style.

Which tiles will work in your bathroom?

There are several factors to consider before you choose which tile to install in your bathroom, including the proportions of the space and the effect you’d like to achieve.

Small is beautiful

Is your bathroom of more modest proportions? If so, choosing glossy, pale tiles will bounce light around the room, making it feel much bigger and more open. Opting for larger format tiles, such as bricks, can also help to make a compact room feel more spacious as they trick the eye. Laying them horizontally will draw the eye across if you need to add width, or try installing vertically to create a sense of height. This could make for a more complex installation though, as more cuts will be required, so do bear this in mind if you are undertaking the work yourself.

Back to nature

If you want to create a natural, soothing space, using tiles with rustic edges and textured surfaces in sage greens and calming taupes will create a natural feel, helping to turn your bathroom into a sanctuary.

All out glamour

Your bathroom isn’t somewhere that you (relatively speaking) spend a great deal of time, so if you’re not afraid to make a statement, this could be the place to do it. Patterned tiles are a popular choice for bathroom walls, and come in a wide array of colours to allow you to really make a statement. Otherwise opt for dark hues such as indigo Lapis or dark grey Sloe, to create a moody and atmospheric zone. Use interesting details, like a moulding, skirting or finishing tile to add extra interest.

Spectacular splashbacks

If you prefer a more understated look, why not opt for a plainer tile with a patterned splashback behind your basin to draw the eye and add interest. Try using a classic metro brick tile set off with a bold patterned tile.

The Chateaux collection of ceramic tiles offers a selection of beautifully patterned tiles in a combination of whites and blues that look great against a plain, glossy metro tile – perfect for making a statement in a neutral bathroom.
